Pool Problems? We've Got the Fix.
Your Pool Troubles, Handled by Pros …………
Green Water
No/Low Chroline
No chlorine reading when testing. Low chlorine reading.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Correct pH.
Note: If TA (Total Alkalinity) has not been tested, test and correct TA level before starting treatment. - Aqualite Chliorine -90%
- Aqualite Chlorine – 65%
Green Algae
No/Low chlorine reading when testing. Green patches on floor / walls of pool lining.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Correct pH.
- Ensure Free Available Chlorine (FAC) is below 1ppm.
- Add Aqualite algicure according to label instructions.
Over-stabilised Water
High Chlorine level, high Stabiliser level. Pool is luminous green.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- The only way to reduce the stabiliser level is to drain a portion of pool water.
- Take care not to drain the water level below the bottom of the weir to avoid damage to the pool pump.
- Top up with fresh water.
- Repeat as necessary until the stabiliser level is within the recommended range. Retest pool water.
Please note: High levels of stabiliser may result in insufficient free chlorine and harmful bacteria in your pool water. DO NOT EXCEED 50ppm.
- Consider using non-stabilised chlorine products like Aqualite Chlorine until the stabiliser level is within the recommended range.
- Correct filtering hours in accordance with pool size.
- Select the floater that is suitable for your pool size.
Disolved Waters
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Add HTH® Metal Remover in accordance with label instructions.
- Allow to circulate for at least 8 hours to ensure thorough mixing.
- Test and adjust pH if necessary.
- Allow the filter to run continuously for 24 hours.
- Resume normal chlorination and filtration.
Cloudy Water
Slightly cloudy
Water is cloudy but you can see to the bottom of the pool.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Clear pump and weir basket.
- Backwash for 2 minutes and rinse for 30 seconds.
- Correct pH.
- Add HTH Sparkle It in accordance with label instructions.
- Ensure that you adhere to the correct filtering hours for your pool size.
Very cloudy
Water is cloudy and you can barely see to the bottom of the pool.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Clear pump and weir basket.
- Backwash for 2 minutes and rinse for 30 seconds.
- Correct pH.
- Add HTH Sparkle It or Magic Touch
in accordance with label instructions. - Ensure that you adhere to the correct filtering hours for your pool size.
Algae
Green Algae
Green algae on walls and floor.
Pool walls feel slimy.
(Based on a 50,000L pool)
Adjust the pH to the correct level.
Ensure the Free Available Chlorine (FAC) is below 1 ppm.
Apply Aqualite Algicure as per label instructions.
Black Algae
Black slimy patches appear on pool walls and cannot be removed by brushing.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Empty and clean the pump and weir baskets.
- Backwash the filter for 2 minutes, then rinse for 30 seconds.
- Adjust the pH to the correct level.
- Add HTH® Sparkle It™ or HTH® Sparkle It™ Cube according to the label instructions.
- Make sure the pool is filtered for the appropriate number of hours based on its size.
Dont know

Stains
Copper
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Add 2 liters of HTH® Metal Remover following the label instructions.
- Allow it to circulate for a minimum of 8 hours to ensure proper mixing.
- Check and adjust the pH level as needed.
- Keep the filter running continuously for 24 hours.
- Return to your regular chlorination and filtration schedule.
- OR use HTH® Stain Lift & Prevent specifically for metal-based stains.
Iron
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Add 2 liters of HTH® Metal Remover according to the label instructions.
- Let it circulate for at least 8 hours to ensure complete mixing.
- Test the pH and adjust if required.
- Run the filter continuously for 24 hours.
- Resume your normal chlorination and filtration routine.
- OR apply HTH® Stain Lift & Prevent designed for metal-based stains.
Organic
Green or yellow stains on the pool lining that cannot be removed by brushing.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Add 2 liters of HTH® Metal Remover following the instructions on the label.
- Allow the product to circulate for at least 8 hours to ensure effective mixing.
- Check and adjust the pH level if necessary.
- Keep the filter running continuously for 24 hours.
- Resume normal chlorination and filtration afterward.
Stagnant Water
Stagnant Water
Water appears dark green or black due to prolonged neglect. The pool pump and filter have not been operating for an extended period.
(Treatment based on a 50,000L Pool)
- Brush the pool walls and steps thoroughly to remove algae from the lining.
- Top up the water level to ensure it is well above the weir.
- Backwash and rinse the pool filter.
- Test the pool water and adjust parameters to the recommended ranges.
- Maintain pH at 7.2 — if pH is low, add Alkalinity Up; if pH is high, add HTH® Dry Acid or HTH® Easy Acid following label instructions.
- In the early evening, shock treat with 3 cups of chlorine or a pouch of HTH® Shock It.
- Note: If the green tint remains after 12 hours, repeat the shock treatment as necessary.
- Run the pool pump and filter continuously for 12 hours to clear debris.
- The following morning, backwash and rinse again to remove accumulated debris.
- If significant debris or cloudiness persists, apply a clarifier such as HTH® Xtreme Flocc, carefully following label directions.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Depending on water condition severity, some or all steps may need to be repeated.
Increase or Decrease TA
- To increase TA, use a TA increaser (PH Plus).
- To decrease TA, use a pH reducer (like dry acid or PH Minus).
- Balanced TA prevents pH swings, corrosion, and cloudy water.
Increase or Decrease pH Level
- To increase pH, use a pH increaser (like soda ash/sodium carbonate).
- To decrease pH, use a pH reducer (like dry acid or muriatic acid).
- Balanced pH (7.2–7.6) prevents irritation, scaling, and equipment damage.
Turn green water to blue
- Shock the pool with a chlorine-based pool shock treatment.
- Brush pool walls and floor to remove algae buildup.
- Run the filtration system continuously until the water clears.
- Use an algaecide to kill remaining spores.
- Finish with a clarifier to restore water clarity.
Directions for shock treatment
- Test and balance pH to between 7.2 and 7.6 before shocking.
- Dissolve the shock granules in a bucket of water (if required by product instructions).
- Turn on the pool pump and pour the solution evenly around the pool.
- Use at dusk or evening to reduce chlorine loss from sunlight.
- Shock dosage: 1kg per 50,000 litres (or as per product label).
- Allow pump to run for 8–12 hours continuously after application.
- Do not swim until chlorine levels return to 1–3 ppm.
Remove copper (metals) from pool water
- Use a metal remover (e.g., HTH® Metal Remover) to bind and neutralize metals.
- Add 1L per 50,000 litres of pool water, following label directions.
- Run the pump continuously for at least 12 hours after application.
- Use a clarifier after 24 hours to help filter out bound metal particles.
- Test source water (especially borehole water) for metals before refilling.
